They gathered and marched. Police chased them with pepper spray and
tear gas and drove their tanks over people who offered the police food
in return. Two young people were run over by the tanks and were killed.
Another young woman, a friend of mine, was hit in the head by one of the
incoming tear gas canisters. The police were shooting them straight
into the crowd. After a three hour operation she is still in Intensive
Care Unit and in very critical condition. As I write this we don’t know
if she is going to make it. This blog is dedicated to her.
These people are my friends. They are my students, my relatives. They
have no «hidden agenda» as the state likes to say. Their agenda is out
there. It is very clear. The whole country is being sold to corporations
by the government, for the construction of malls, luxury condominiums,
freeways, dams and nuclear plants. The government is looking for (and
creating when necessary) any excuse to attack Syria against its people’s
will.
On top of all that, the government control over its people’s personal
lives has become unbearable as of late. The state, under its
conservative agenda passed many laws and regulations concerning
abortion, cesarean birth, sale and use of alcohol and even the color of
lipstick worn by the airline stewardesses.
People who are marching to the center of Istanbul are demanding their
right to live freely and receive justice, protection and respect from
the State. They demand to be involved in the decision-making processes
about the city they live in.

Provocateurs In Greece Causing Brutal Police Crackdown on Leigitmate Protesters

Greece is at boiling point – with police firing tear gas at crowds of angry protesters. Thousands of demonstrators are trying to block access to the Parliament building, where the government is discussing more cutbacks to secure further rescue loans. The deal on the table suggests suffocating austerity measures, such as more taxes and a four-year privatisation programme. The Bahrain Army Just Started Firing Machine Guns Right Into The Protesters

...the army in Abharain have started firing live ammo directly at protesters, who were marching towards a hospital, which housed other injured protesters.
It's clear that unlike in Egypt -- where for the most part the Army was not violent in one direction or another -- the Bahrain royal family has control of its military, and is using it to crack down on protesters, a situation that will make things potentially more bloody.
Of course, Bahrain is a big pivot point for the region. If it falls, Saudi Arabia could conceivably go, which is why they're panicking there...

Italian opposition asks: Who led Rome riots?

Italy's interior minister today agreed to address parliament on the rioting that broke out in Rome yesterday as Silvio Berlusconi won a controversial vote of confidence to keep his rightwing government alive .
Roberto Maroni of the Northern League gave the undertaking after opposition claims that some of the rioters were police. Anna Finocchiaro, leader in the Senate of Italy's biggest opposition group, the Democratic party, said: "There were evidently people who had been infiltrated [among the rioters] and who put at risk the demonstrators and the police. Who commanded them? Who paid them? What were they meant to cause?"
Photographs taken during the disturbances have prompted not only suspicions but bitter memories of the 1970s when rogue members of the police and intelligence services lent themselves to a so-called "strategy of tension" aimed at raising the level of violence to the point at which it could be used to justify draconian repression or even a coup d'état...
One of the participants in this week's rioting was photographed hurling a dustbin at members of the revenue guard and wielding a long shovel. But in other shots, he appears to be standing with the guards raising a truncheon in one hand and holding a pair of handcuffs in the other.
One blog carried a photograph of a demonstrator being held on the ground by officers whose uniform boots are seemingly identical to his. Further controversy surrounded a revenue guard who was ambushed by rioters.
An official statement said he was rescued "thanks to the intervention of colleagues, some in uniform and others in civilian clothes". But, according to Italian media reports, the revenue guard subsequently briefed reporters to the effect that it never deployed officers in civilian clothing in demonstrations or disturbances...

Racial Factions in Prisons Unite for Large Protest Against Inhumane Conditions; Actions Coordinated via Contraband Mobile Phones

“The Department’s mission of maintaining safe and secure facilities is non-negotiable and will not be jeopardized,” corrections commissioner Brian Owens said in a written statement Monday afternoon. “The Department will ensure appropriate safety measures are in place before the lockdown is lifted."
Brown, part of the newly formed Concerned Coalition to Respect Prisoners’ Rights, said inmates at Augusta State Prison were “brutally ripped from their cells … and beaten, resulting in broken ribs, one man beaten beyond recognition.”
She said officers assigned to the riot squad at Telfair State Prison had “roughed up prisoners and destroyed all their property. At Macon and Hays State Prisons, tactical squads have menaced the men for days, removing some to the ‘hole,’ the wardens ordering heat and hot water turned off. Tear gas has been used to force men out of their cells at various prisons, while guards patrol grounds with assault rifles.”
...According to Brown, the inmates are protesting the lack of fruits and vegetables in their meals, no pay for their work, poor living conditions and parole decisions.

The Kind of Article Which Leads To War
An article by David Burchell in The Australian entitled WikiLeaks reveals ugly truth about Iran appeasers, is a perfect example of absurd war propaganda.
Apparently David Burchell is unaware that another war is the last thing a financially indebted America needs, not to mention the loss of life which is the result of such an escapade.
Apparently David Burchell is unaware that not just in Iran but our own elections have also been rigged, such as in Ohio in 2004. I will quote here from the Status Report of the House Judiciary Committee Democratic Staff, Jan. 2005.
"... we find that there were massive and unprecedented voter irregularities and anomalies in Ohio. In many cases these irregularities were caused by intentional misconduct and illegal behavior...."
Is he unaware that there is also massive election fraud in our "liberated" Afghanistan?
Apparently David Burchell is unaware that protesters are also "seized at random off the streets and beaten into a state of permanent incapacity" in the West as well. Remember Ian Tomlinson who was killed by police at a london protest? What about this german whose eye was knocked out in a protest confrontation with police?
Apparently David Burchell is unaware of a great deal, and is instead just happy to beat his little war drum regardless of the facts.

U.S. Supported Repressive Regime In Flames in Kyrgyzstan; Important Manas Air Base Future Threatened
The opposition is claiming that at least 100 have died in protests there. Russia today is reporting the government of Kyrgyzstan is stepping down. This most likely will spell trouble for the Manas Air Base, an important U.S. support base for the Afganistan conflict and according to the Christian Science Monitor, the "only air base the US has access to in Central Asia." It was only the repressive regime which has now stepped down which was allowing the U.S. to continue to operate the base.
