Earth could be getting a second sun, at least temporarily.

Dr. Brad Carter, Senior Lecturer of Physics at the University of Southern Queensland, outlined the scenario to news.com.au. Betelgeuse, one of the night sky's brightest stars, is losing mass, indicating it is collapsing. It could run out of fuel and go super-nova at any time.

When that happens, for at least a few weeks, we'd see a second sun, Carter says. There may also be no night during that timeframe.

I was browsing through Cryptogon, when I caught an article on how Chiquita funded death squads in Colombia. If you follow the links back to the original article from Huffington Post on how Attorney General Eric Holder was one of the lawyers involved in getting Chiquita out of trouble on that one, you find the shocking statement that Chiquita's payments of money and guns to the Colombian paramilitaries led to the murder of 4000 civilians in Colombia.

So next time you eat that yummy, healthy Chiquita banana, just know that thousands of people have died for the greed of the company that brought it to you. Not that the banana itself is really to blame, the sick and corrupt corporations are.

Nonetheless, that banana is bleeding buckets of red blood.

Stiglitz says Federal Reserve Undermines Democracy

Stiglitz, Nobel Prize Winning Economist, says Federal Reserve System 'Corrupt.' So reads the headline in the Huffington Post. An article on the economist's statements is also on George Washington's Blog.

Stiglitz is quoted in both articles as saying "If we [i.e. the World Bank] had seen a governance structure that corresponds to our Federal Reserve system, we would have been yelling and screaming and saying that country does not deserve any assistance, this is a corrupt governing structure."

Wow, that can't be good for the ruling oligarchy.
