Is the Dramatic Increase in Baby Deaths in the US a Result of Fukushima Fallout?

From Counterpunch

A 35% Spike in Infant Mortality in Northwest Cities Since Meltdown

The recent CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report indicates that eight cities in the northwest U.S. (Boise ID, Seattle WA, Portland OR, plus the northern California cities of Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, and Berkeley) reported the following data on deaths among those younger than one year of age:

4 weeks ending March 19, 2011 - 37 deaths (avg. 9.25 per week)
10 weeks ending May 28, 2011 - 125 deaths (avg.12.50 per week)

This amounts to an increase of 35% (the total for the entire U.S. rose about 2.3%), and is statistically significant...

Global Radiation Levels 'No Longer Negligible' In Milk, Water, Produce

From Care2.com

A French research authority on radioactivity is now warning expectant European mothers and young children to avoid drinking milk or rainwater, while EPA data released on Sunday shows that at least three different milk samples -- all from different parts of the US -- have tested positive for radioactive Iodine-131 at levels that exceed the current maximum thresholds for safety.

The radiation risk from Fukushima is "no longer negligible," says CRIIRAD, the French agency. Two weeks ago, the FDA began blocking imports of some Japanese milk and produce...

Highway To The Fukushima Zone: First Person Trek Through A Radioactive Wasteland

From Zerohedge

An intrepid Japanese duo has decided to do the reverse Fukushima commute and in a stunning filmed expose, drives through cracked roads, herds of animals in city streets and ghost towns to measure the radiation from 30 km out to 1.5 km away from Fukushima, where it hits 112 microsieverts, or roughly 350 times normal radiation. But don't worry. Everything is still under the recently updgraded (twice) legal limit.... for those clad in lead armor...

Japan Finds Toxic Fish, As Ocean Radiation Soars To 7.5 Million Times Legal Limit; As In Gulf Spill Fishing Industry Threatened

7.5 million times the legal limit? That sounds none too healthy.

From Business Insider.

A fish was caught on Friday midway between Fukushima and Tokyo that contained dangerously high levels of radioactive iodine and high levels of cesium...

Radiation spikes in seawater off stricken Japan plant

Seawater 19 miles from Fukushima has radiation levels 1,250 times higher then normal.

From Reuters

TOKYO (Reuters) - Radiation levels have soared in seawater near Japan's crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, officials said on Saturday, as engineers struggled to stabilize the power station two weeks after it was hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami.

Tests on Friday showed iodine 131 levels in seawater 30 km (19 miles) from the coastal nuclear complex had spiked 1,250 times higher than normal, but it was not considered a threat to marine life or food safety, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said.

Japanese Authorities Admit Deadly MOX Plutonium Reactor Is Leaking

From Prison Planet.

Has cover-up of leakage been ongoing since massive March 14 explosion?

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
Friday, March 25, 2011

While the mass media has all but dropped its interest in the Fukushima crisis to focus on Libya and meaningless side-issues like the death of Elizabeth Taylor, the nuclear nightmare only worsens, as Japanese authorities admit that reactor number 3, which is the only reactor to contain MOX plutonium, is now leaking.

Radiation In Ibaraki Rises To 300 Times Normal As Fukushima Evacuated, DOCOMO To Limit Up To 80% Of Voice Calls In Chiba, Ibaraki, 50% In Tokyo

Unfortunately worldwide the mainstream media and governments can only be trusted to 'spin' news, towards what purpose, who knows...

From Zerohedge.

...A somewhat bigger problem is that according to Bloomberg, which has now caught up to our radiation reporting by prefecture, the radiation in Ibaraki has reached 15,800 nanosieverts/hour at 11:40 am, which is 300 times normal. The spin: this is one third the amount of radiation in a chest X-ray. What is not mentioned is that an X-ray is exposure measured in one instant, whereas in this case the irradiation goes on for hour, after hour, after hour. And some other unpleasant news: NTT DOCOMO has announced it will limit up to 80% of voice calls in neighboring Chiba and Ibaraki prefectures, and up to 50% in Tokyo. Whether this is to conserves some mystical telephonic energy or to prevent the spread of panic is unclear. As this latest news is digested watch for the drift....

'Don't listen to the Japanese government': Aussie expat tells of Fukushima chaos

From The Sydney Morning Herald

At least 750 workers were evacuated yesterday morning when another explosion ruptured the inner containment building at Reactor No. 2 at the Dai-ichi plant.

The explosion released a surge of radiation 800 times more intense than the recommended hourly exposure limit in Japan.

But Mr Gregoric said some people were still in the dark about the threat in Fukushima.

"Even some people have not left Fukushima city, which is one of the worst hit," he said.

"I still know people who haven't left Sendai because they just don't have information.

"The most important thing now is accurate reporting, accurate reporting and information, and honesty, and all those three things are lacking."

He said residents were queueing for four hours to get water, petrol had run out and there were rolling electricity cuts,

After weighing up his options, Mr Gregoric decided to leave Japan and was due to fly out of Tokyo on a Qantas flight at 8pm yesterday.
