ROME (Reuters) - At least 40 civilians have been killed in air strikes by Western forces on Tripoli, the top Vatican official in the Libyan capital told a Catholic news agency on Thursday, quoting witnesses.
"The so-called humanitarian raids have killed dozens of civilian victims in some neighborhoods of Tripoli," said Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, the Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli.
"I have collected several witness accounts from reliable people. In particular, in the Buslim neighborhood, due to the bombardments, a civilian building collapsed, causing the death of 40 people," he told Fides, the news agency of the Vatican missionary arm...

Invader's Remorse: Arab League Now Criticizes Western Attack On Libya

Not even a full day after the UN-endorsed attack on Libya began, and the "invader's remorse" is already manifesting itself as discontent among the "peacemakers" emerges. Per the AFP: "The Arab League on Sunday criticized Western military strikes on Libya, a week after urging the United Nations to slap a no-fly zone on the oil-rich North African state. "What has happened in Libya differs from the goal of imposing a no-fly zone and what we want is the protection of civilians and not bombing other civilians," Arab League secretary general Amr Mussa told reporters." We wonder what the Arab League will say when reports of innocent civilians, up to a million of whom have been forcefully armed by Gaddafi, being butchered en masse begin emerging. And how long before the entire operation is deemed a total failure... to be redeemed only by a full scale land invasion?

The Russian military claims that the supposed air strikes launched by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi against protesters last week did not happen, suggesting that the key event seized upon by the global media as a justification for a “humanitarian” military intervention was a contrived hoax
According to Russia Today correspondent Irina Galushko, top officials from Russia’s Joint Chiefs of Staff monitoring images from space satellites have concluded that, “Some of the reports made by western media are not entirely corresponding to the pictures they are getting.”
Specifically, the supposed air strikes that took place on February 22 over Benghazi and Tripoli, which were widely reported by the likes of the BBC and Al Jazeera, were not registered by the Russian military chiefs studying the images coming in from the satellites.
The pictures show that, “nothing of that sort has been going on on the ground,” states Galushko, adding that there is also no evidence from footage shot by television cameras which suggests that any airborne attacks took place.
Although there seems little doubt that Gaddafi’s regime is currently using air strikes to fight back against rebels who have seized eastern areas of the country, the initial claim that air strikes were used against protesters was unquestioningly parroted by the mass media last week despite there being scant evidence of such an attack...
